ViewPoint - Our
Simple WIP Tracking & Reporting System
We most commonly call it a
"work-in-process tracking system," but
ViewPoint is our simple system solution that
can track literally anything that moves
within your operation and needs to be quickly
found. Work orders, file folders, paperwork,
jobs, customer files, etc. - literally anything
can be tracked between multiple "checkpoints." A
checkpoint can be any place that your tracked
stuff could be - a workstation, desk, processing
area, machine, with a certain person, or within
a specific work task or process.
ViewPoint uses simple gun-type bar code
scanners which are not connected to PCs but
directly to a standard Ethernet LAN! (That means
you can track stuff without PCs!) When personnel
want to record the presence of a tracked item at
a checkpoint, they simply use a ViewPoint scanner
to scan one or two bar codes, nothing more;
the ViewPoint software automatically date and
time stamps the tracking record. Dozens of
scanners can function simultaneously and you can
have as many defined checkpoints and users as you require.
Because the ViewPoint software is web-based,
anyone on your LAN can use their Internet
Explorer or Safari browser to easily and immediately
access any of the collected data. Should a
customer call and need to know where her order
is, anyone should be able to tell them in a few
seconds! If one of your managers needs to know
where production or processing bottlenecks are
located, they just need to access the
appropriate ViewPoint screen on their browser
and a graphical and statistical screen will give
them a high-level "viewpoint" of what is currently located
where.
All of the software in the ViewPoint system is
web-based and has been developed using Microsoft
.NET programming tools. Small-scale ViewPoint installations will function adequately from a
dedicated, on-site web server running Windows XP.
